When vaudeville fell on hard times, the twins made a temporary farewell to the stage. In 1955 they settled in Miami and opened a hamburger stand. It didn't go, and within four years the twins were dancing again with a traveling sideshow. The bloom was off their career when they hit Charlotte in 1962 for an appearance at a showing of a movie. "We laid their stage career to rest with that appearance, said W.

F. Lemmonds, manager of the drive-in theater, who hired them. A former neighbor, Mrs. S.B. Hannah, recalled the twins' plight after their final appearance, "They said an agent brought them here and promised to come back for Mrs.

Hannah said. "But he never came back." The twins, then in their mid-50s, soon were out of money and frequently took their meals with Mrs. Hannah. They went to work for the supermarket.
